Individual can become a green card holders in several ways. Some people become green card holders through family, while others obtain green cards through refugee or asylum status. However, another way to become a green card holder is by working in the US.
The American Dream is enticing for many foreigners, especially immigrants who are eager to launch a business or work in the US. Here is a brief look at the steps to becoming a green card holder through a job or offer of employment.
The first way a person may be eligible to become a permanent resident is through a job offer of permanent employment in the US. According to U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the company has to obtain a labor certification and then file a Form 1-140, Immigrant Petition for Alien Worker.
In addition to this route, individuals may obtain US green cards through investment opportunities. If you’re investor or entrepreneur who has plans to make an investment in the US that produces new jobs, then you may be eligible to become a permanent resident.
But if you do not have a job offer in the US and do not have the money to invest in a new venture, you may just have to petition for yourself. The third way an individual may be eligible to become a permanent resident of the US is through self petition. Some foreigners can file for themselves if they fall under the category of “Aliens of Extraordinary Ability” or certain people granted a National Interest Waiver.
